About Me

I’ve always been a writer. I was first published in a book of children’s poetry at age 10, with a poem about catching a serial killer (surprisingly dark for a happy fifth-grader who spent most days riding bikes with my friends or playing with my dog).

I had a talent for translating ideas. I could rephrase complicated subject matter to classmates, putting it in a way they’d understand based on what I knew about how their minds worked. Even the weird ones (maybe especially the weird ones).

I actually liked writing papers in school—using the written word to make a moving argument, harnessing the power of the English language to sell my take on a topic to teachers and professors. In college, I learned to use my understanding of a professor’s personality to craft the content of a paper that would speak to them. I didn’t realize at the time that I was marketing my paper toward them to get the A.

After getting my B.A. in Communications with a minor in English Lit from SUNY Geneseo—that’s right, the Harvard of Western New York—I found a way to turn the skills I’d been honing all my life into a career I would thrive on. I landed a job at an ad agency in Rochester, NY, and gained entry into the world of copywriting. l had awesome creative mentors who helped me finetune my talent to tell brand stories and move audiences.

I love solving copy puzzles—taking complex ideas and simplifying them so anyone in a target audience will easily understand them. I have a talent for getting into the heads of a demographic, thinking about how to say something in a way that gets to their specific wants and needs. I enjoy doing work that helps entrepreneurs and small businesses grow in their communities.

Since my agency days, I’ve worked writing full time in niche markets of finance and higher ed, while freelancing for different products and services to keep my creative edge sharp. After a couple big career moves to Boston and Providence, I landed in Ithaca, NY. The culture and awe-inspiring natural areas in and around Ithaca feed my creativity and energize my life and my work. And of course the wine helps.
